Ratnaboli Ray

Ratnaboli Ray or Ratna as she is fondly known at work and among friends is the brains behind Anjali (www.anjalimhro.org).

Ratnaboli is a trained Clinical Psychologist, an Ashoka Fellow, and the Founder and Managing Trustee of Anjali, a pioneering mental health rights organisation working for over two decades.

She further attended a short intensive course on Human Rights and Health from the Harvard School of Public Health and Hygiene. She was an advisor in the drafting of the Mental Health Care Act, 2017, and was on the West Bengal Rule Framing Committee for state level implementation of the same.

She's warm, creative, a stickler for aesthetics and keeps her colleagues enthralled by her superb mimicry of almost everybody. She is a foodie, loves to cook and entertain people at her home.

Ratnaboli is a champion activist in the country and has a global presence in advocacy for psychosocial disabilities.  She contributes op-edits on various social issues in regional and national print media. She has previously been the first Indian woman to receive the Human Rights Defender Award from Human Rights Watch, USA, in 2016 and has been the recipient of several awards here in India for her outstanding contribution in mental health activism.
